Ruo Steensma, PhD, Head of Chemistry and Business Development
Dr. Steensma founded Steensma Consulting in 2008 and has helped several start ups streamline their portfolio and participated in partnering and fund raising activities that resulted in millions of dollars in funding. She brings both management and scientific expertise to CalAsia and will be heading the business development effort. Ruo is currently a board member of San Diego Entrepreneurs Exchange. She is also a Board Member of American Chemical Society-San Diego Section. Ruo was previously Director of Medicinal Chemistry at SGX Pharmaceuticals, where she managed the chemistry department, internal programs and external collaborations. Prior to SGX, she held senior scientist positions at Novartis and Schering-Plough, and has led successful efforts in moving small molecules into clinical trials. She received a B.S. degree from Beijing University and a Ph.D. degree from The Scripps Research Institute. She conducted postdoctoral research at Univ. of Pennsylvania. Dr. Steensma is an co-author of over 40 publications.
